Laminate floating floors are also available to suit commercial applications. We have supplied and installed many laminate floating floors in cafes and restaurants, hairdressing salons, retail stores, apartment and housing projects, and offices.
Laminate floating floors are comprised of four layers. The top layer is aluminium oxide, which provides a tough, protective coating to the decorative image sheet that lies beneath, giving the laminate its appearance of wood, or other material. This is then bonded to an MDF board, which provides the core structure and stability. Finally, the base of the laminate floating floor is melamine, which provides further stability, impact resistance and prevents bowing.
Laminate floating floors are not secured directly to the sub floor; instead they are floated over the sub floor, and installed without nails or glue using their interlocking system. Firstly plastic sheeting is placed on the sub floor to prevent moisture rising from the surface, and then an underlay is placed over the plastic, which provides cushioning and absorbs sound. The laminate floating floor is then installed on top.
Laminate floating floors can be used over a wide variety of sub floors, including wooden sub floors, existing floors and concrete slabs. It cannot, however, be installed over carpet.
